10th Annual Beaverton Education Foundation Phone campaign

In the five, fun-filled, competitive nights of the awarding winning 10th Annual Beaverton Education Foundation Phone-a-thon, more than 350 student volunteers made more than 33,000 phone calls, on generously donated Cricket Wireless cell phones from several offices donated by our new landlord, BG Plaza. More then 100 adult volunteers - callers, coaches, team advisors joined the ranks of students volunteers to assist with advancing the mission of the BEF.

Callers were awarded mardi gras beads for pledges, and prizes (from candy and chips from Beaverton's own Arico Foods to 2 $50 gift cards from Hall Street Grill and lift tickets to Mt. Hood Meadows to Blazers tickets and everything in between) from 50 local businesses. The students are an amazing testament to the great work done in our classrooms and homes, they make a compelling argument for the value of high quality public education.

Students from, ACMA: Dance West, National Honor Society, Publications, Aloha High School: Girls Lacrosse, Speech and Debate, Key Club, Ski Team, Latino Leadership Cadre, Beaverton High School: Link, Hummer, Diversity Club, Speech & Debate, Leadership, Thespians, Science and Tech HS: Model United Nations Club, Southridge High School: Volleyball, Ski team, Key Club, Honor Society, Sunset High School: Key Club, French Club, Softball, Math League, Speech & Debate and Westview High School: Health Careers, Thespians, Choir, Culinary Arts and Cheerleading all participated in the drive. Each of the 31 calling teams will receive an honorium for their teams participation to fund activities like - travel to competitions, entry fees for competitions, field trips and equipment and supplies.

The Phone campaign and the associated mailings are the Foundations largest fund raising activity for the year. Over the five nights of calling pledges and gifts totaled nearly $79,000 from 1,857 donors. While economic times made efffected the amount of money raised(we are down from last year), the number of donors increased by 102. Our community is increadably generous, especially when we all know the dollars stay right here to help our kids. Funds raised are reinvested in a wide variety of after and summer school programs for students at all of Beaverton's public schools. There is still plenty of time to participate - please consider writing a check today or making an on-line contribution using our secure interface. (donate now)

The Phone-a-thon would not have been possible without amazing support and assistance from the BEF staff and Board, the leadership and staff of the Beaverton School District, the volunteers, local businesses, students, parents and, of course the nearly 2000 households that picked up the phone and said YES to our student volunteers!
