Our Brand New Look
Sunset High Student Grace Gao has won the Beaverton Education Foundation (BEF) Graphic Identity Design Competition. A District wide competition, the Beaverton Education Foundation challenged local high school students to design a new original graphic identity for the BEF.
“We saw this as an opportunity to engage the high school students in a real life graphic design situation, integrating classroom learning with professionals working in the field. It was also a great way for the BEF to update its identity with fresh and innovative ideas,” stated Kristine Baggett, BEF Executive Director.
The review team from Studio Cue and the Global Brand Design team from Nike, donated their time and expertise to choose the winning design, give the students professional feedback and to refine the design for the Beaverton Education Foundation.
Gao’s award winning entry earned her a gift card, and the art program at Sunset High a cash award to be used to enhance the classroom experience. Finalists Shawn Dinneen and Chris Mueller, Aloha High, were also awarded gift cards and their art program a cash award. See all the winning entries here.
The Beaverton Education Foundation’s new look was unveiled at the High School Musical on Tour pre-performance party at the Keller Auditorium on May 29th, a part of the BEF’s Broadway for Beaverton Schools.
Dave Gettling Technology Award Fund
Beaverton Education Foundation and the Gettling family and friends announced the creation of the Dave Gettling Technology Award Fund, a memorial fund for competitive technology-based educational grants. Grants will be awarded annually and will be used to implement innovative classroom projects through BEF’s Classroom Innovation Grants Program.
Dave was a BSD teacher, administrator and BEF board member until his recent passing. Friends and family remember Dave for his passion for and interest in technology and its use in the classroom. At press time, generous donors have amassed more than $15,000 to establish the award fund.
BEF now has two named funds supporting specific initiatives through its grant programs. The Mike Osborne Memorial Fund will continue to support literacy programs through the annual Classroom Innovation Grants program as well. If you are interested in establishing a initiatives fund, please contact Executive Director, Kristine Baggett 503.927.9752.
Great Partnerships Win!

2008-2009 Board Chair Jeff Whalen and Executive Director, Kristine Baggett celebrate Beaverton Education Foundation’s first Willamette Valley Development Officers Crystal Award for the 2007 phone campaign.
BEF implemented an innovative approach by partnering with Cricket Wireless. Cricket donated cell phones, volunteers and senior staff and programmed all of the phones with Beaverton Education Foundation as the display on caller ID screens. Community partners hosting calling nights included Platt Electric Supply, Inc, Beaverton Round, First Tech Credit Union and Beaverton Courtyard by Marriott. No less than 500 high school students and 100 community and business leaders made calls asking our community to support BEF.
BEF: A Great Return on Your Investment
Whether you are interested in arts education or homework support, BEF funds programs in a wide range of disciplines that reach a significant number of students. These charts show how grant dollars are invested. From 1999-2000 to 2007-2008 the Beaverton Education Foundation awarded $1,609,137 in grants and awards.
