After-the-Bell Student Success AwardsIn response to input from the community and the school district, the Beaverton Education Foundation is expanding its efforts to support Beaverton School District Students.
National research shows that after-school programs improve academic performance and behavior. Educators know that keeping middle school students involved reduces high school dropout rates and principals attest to the value of extended day curriculum that fosters literacy, engaged learning and enrichment. Our evaluation of these programs demonstrates significant and sustainable impact on student achievement during the school day. But current after-school activities exist only because of local contributions and the rare federal grant.
Our students and schools are relying on Beaverton Education Foundation programs more than ever. Consequently in 2004, the BEF designed the After-the-Bell Student Success Awards to develop and promote after-school activities in every one of Beaverton’s 46 schools. We will keep our grant programs for classroom, summer and after-school programs. In addition, BEF will stimulate student success at each level awarding $52,500 of funding to our 2006 middle school After-the-Bell Program, and $10,000 of funding to our After-the-Bell High School Program.
Future After-the-Bell Student Success AwardsThe Beaverton Education Foundation’s goal is to expand the After-the-Bell Student Success Awards to include funding for elementary schools:
This is an ambitious goal. Local grassroots efforts such as the BEF Phone-a-thon strengthen our local schools and community. Donations to the BEF stay in Beaverton to help our students. Please help.
