BEF joins Bonamici and Beaverton school officials urge Congress not to cut quarter of funding for low-income students

BEF Executive Director Lauren Garrett joined U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, BSD Associate Superintendent of teaching and learning Shelly Reggiani, BSD School Board Member Melissa Potter, BEA President Katie Lukins, and Amanda Fowler, president of Aloha-Huber Park K-8 at a press conference urging Congress not to cut funding for Title 1 schools.

“Lauren Garrett, executive director of the Beaverton Education Foundation — a nonprofit that raises money for various projects throughout the district — said private philanthropy can’t come close to replacing potential Title 1 funding, noting it would impact the district’s most vulnerable students ‘who depend on steady and reliable support to close achievement gaps and improve overall educational outcomes.‘ ”
