BEF Middle School Extended Day Awards Announced

2014-2015 BEF Middle School Extended Day Awards Announced

With thanks to our generous donors, including Comcast, Juan Young Trust, Wells Fargo Foundation and the BEF Building STEAM 4 all program, the Beaverton Education Foundation was able to award $29,000, funding an extended day program at all eight traditional middle schools.

Cedar Park After-School Program

School: Cedar Park Middle School

Award: $2,500

Funding provided through the BEF Building STEAM 4 All Program

Cedar Park students will have the opportunity to participate in a weekly after-school program to increase academic skills, build positive relationships with adults, and increase confidence in their abilities as students. Course offerings include Math Academy, Homework Help, Indoor Soccer, Drama, Basketball, Math Counts, Chess Club, Science Bowl and Math Club.

Before and After School Enrichment Activities

School: Conestoga Middle School

Award:   $2,500

Conestoga will offer a variety of before and after school enrichment clubs to assist with academic skills and school engagement. Before school options will include daily Homework Club, and Conestoga Network News. After school options will include clubs such as drama and yoga.

After-School Targeted Intervention

School: Five Oaks Middle School

Award: $5,500

Funding provided through Comcast

Sixth grade students in need of extra assistance with foundational skills to be prepared to enter Algebra as an eighth grade student, will be selected to participate in the after-school program. Students will receive instructional support as well as online practice time. This additional opportunity for students to reinforce math skills will prepare them for Algebra, thereby increasing their potential to be college and career ready when they graduate.

Learning in a STEAM Extended Day Environment

School: Highland Park Middle School

Award: $3,500

Funding provided through Comcast

The Highland Park After-School Enrichment program provides all students the opportunity to participate in programs and activities in an academic setting with staff support. Clubs embrace all aspects of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), model and include robotics, math, art, strategic games, academic support, drama and basketball.

Meadow Park After-School Program

School: Meadow Park Middle School

Award: $3,500

Funding provided through the BEF Building STEAM 4 All Program

The after-school program will provide an academic and social boost for students. The academic supports include small group tutoring and homework assistance by grade level teachers and student peers. In addition to tutoring, specific math support and tutoring will be provided. After-school clubs such as Science Bowl, Math Counts, Lego Robotics, Soccer, Computer Programming, and Knitting, will be offered as well.

Mountain View MS Anchor Club

School: Mountain View Middle School

Award: $5,500

Funding provided through Comcast

Twice a week students will be able to access both support and enrichment courses such as: DREAM team (academic support in all core areas – math, humanities and science), homework club, technology club, reading/writing club, soccer, Lego robotics, and math club.

Extended Day Program/Academic Enhance Program

School: Stoller Middle School

Award: $2,500

Funding provided through the BEF Building STEAM 4 All Program

Stoller will offer an Academic Enhancement Program. This program provides instruction in Core curriculum beyond the regular school hours. Student proficiency linked to learning targets in Math, Science, Writing and Reading will be the focus. Students will have the opportunity to participate in activities such as the arts, sports and recreation, leadership and academic related clubs and activities.

 

After-School Math Intervention

School: Whitford Middle School

Award: $3,500

Funding provided through the BEF Building STEAM 4 All Program

Whitford will use grant funds to establish an after-school math intervention class for students who are performing below grade level. The after school option allows students to receive the needed intervention without pulling them from their classes during the day.
