Campaign Update | Elmonica Sensory Garden | Elmonica Elementary

Last fall, Elmonica Elementary shared their project “Elmonica Sensory Garden” to Beaverton’s Choice hoping to raise funds to turn a neglected garden into a creative space where students could explore and relax in an informative, natural setting.

“We had great partners all along the way that helped us to succeed.  New Seasons Market kicked off our campaign by matching community funds and this spring, a local Eagle Scout candidate organized his troop to clear, build, and plant the space. Two local nurseries donated supplies, and three local businesses gave us goods at a discount. This fall, Parent volunteers and our Eco Club added further plants and installed a buddy bench for students who are looking to make new friends. Our project expanded our recess area and provides a place for students who want to walk or sit during recess.” Malindi Zimmer, Assistant Principal

“I love the sensory garden. It’s a place for the kids to go and destress and appreciate nature.”– Caroline, parent & school volunteer

“A lot of my friends say it’s a comforting place to be. It’s so peaceful with all the plants everywhere.” – Jordyn, Eco Club student

“Supporting projects that provide the next generation knowledge about sustainable agriculture creates consumers that will care about the food they eat and how it is grown.” Claudia Knotek, Community Relations Manager, New Seasons Market

Our PTO has approved funds to expand the garden with a large flower pot for each grade level to manage through our Eco-Club. Thank you to our generous community donors and the Beaverton Education Foundation for helping to support our learning!
