Grant Update – Highland Park Extended Day Program

More than 400 Highland Park Middle School students had the opportunity to exercise their minds and bodies through the 2013-2014 BEF funded after-school enrichment program.  By providing a Lego Robotics Club, Video and Technology Club, Math Club, Mosaics Club and Homework Club, Highland Park was able to enhance student exposure, interest and performance in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  The selection of clubs fostered future interest in these areas, and encouraged student enrollment, retention and success.

  • Lego-Robotics Club – Students used EV3 Lego Mindstorm robots to perform a series of challenges.  They participated in competitions between middle schools.
  • Math Club – Students had an opportunity to extend their practice on math targets that were currently being taught in class.  They played math games, participated in group activities, and had one-on-one help with volunteers.  Math Club students increased their OAKS Math scores by an average of 6 points.
  • Video and Technology Club – Students worked on planning, creating and editing a video project to submit to the Beaverton Signal to Noise Competition.
