Kids Count Grants 2018

Kids Count Grants 2018

The Beaverton Education Foundation is pleased to announce the award of the 2018 BEF Kids Count Grants. With thanks to our generous donors, including the BEF Building STEAM 4 All Program, Genentech and First Tech Federal Credit Union, BEF is awarding $90,000, funding summer programs at nine Beaverton schools.

We are thrilled to share that our highly successful Camp Achieve Program has expanded to nine schools, bringing us closer to our goal of 15 schools by the summer of 2019. We look forward to sharing the success of all of the programs in the fall.

Camp Achieve | $30,000

Schools: McKay, Raleigh Hills, and Raleigh Park Elementary Schools

Our Camp Achieve model will be targeted at kids currently in K-4 and identified as needing academic support and intervention so as to avoid returning to school with diminished skills. This multi-week summer literacy and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) program is a priority for targeted students, for whom robust academic structure and enrichment may be otherwise unavailable. Our programs will embrace science, engineering, and tech components, giving students hands-on opportunities to apply their learning. We will have field trips and a virtual learning component.

Camp Achieve | $30,000

Schools: Bethany, Terra Linda, and Rock Creek Elementary Schools

Camp Achieve is designed to serve students of all abilities and skills. Many at-risk students lack an educationally supportive environment over the summer and return to school with diminished skills (often called “summer slide”). Camp Achieve aims to address this problem by offering multiple weeks of school over the summer through the collaboration of three elementary schools and offer high-quality, research-based instruction. Our programs will embrace science, engineering and tech components, giving students hands-on opportunities to apply their learning. We will have field trips and a virtual learning component.
