Safe and Sound 4 Student Success Kicks Off at Nike

On Thursday, October 5,  350 middle school participants in the Beaverton Education Foundation’s Safe and Sound 4 Student Success (S4) were hosted at Nike World Headquarters for an afternoon of soccer and career exploration.

35 employees volunteers from Nike and AWS Elemental facilitated the events from soccer cleat design to soccer skill relay and tours of the Nike campus. The event helps mark the milestone third year of the program’s positive effect on students – through increase attendance, reduce behavior incidences and relationship building with school staff.

Swoosh cards were handed out to students demonstrating positive behavior: asking good questions, showing sportsmanship, or leadership skills. Twenty Swoosh card recipients went home with brand new soccer balls as a result.

BEF Safe and Sound 4 Student Success program is offered at all eight of the traditional middle schools as well as at the Health and Sciences School. Student participate in a minimum of two days per week of after school academic support and soccer. The group periodically holds inter-school tournaments.

The Foundation is currently in the midst of a $100,000 match campaign to fund this program through Spring of 2019.
